Last weekend the sun was finally shining and we visited Suvi-Vintage (summer vintage) fair with our guests from America.
I really liked the fair, and the old stable yard, where it took place, is one of my favourite places in Tampere. Especially when there is...
Horses!! This horse was working at the fair, taking people for a ride in the carriage. Luckily it wasn't too hot day, and he had food and water and enough breaks :) There is not usually horses at the stable yard anymore, only when there is some happening.
After I had pet the horse enough, and admired this carriage (though it's not pumpkin shaped it's really cool), I was really in a princess mood and ready to shop some vintage.
I think that most vintage clothes have that classic princess style in them, especially 50's feminine dresses with wide skirts, that happen to be my favourites.
Like this one! I'm happy that it was too big for me, because it also had a bit too big price. This reminds me of the Cinderellas mothers dress that she first ment to wear at the ball.
Princess style can of course be created also with modern clothes, but real vintage clothes just have that romantic old-fashioned feeling, and usually Disney princesses styles have influences about the fashion used on that decade the movie was made.
Snow White (late 30's), Cinderella (early 50's) and Sleeping beauty(late 50's) are great examples, even though the movie doesn't take place on that time period, you can still recognize the decade they were made from their hairstyles, make-up and clothes.
It can also been seen in newer films, Ariel's wedding dress's wonderful puffy sleeves from the 80's and Belle's 90's styled parting in the hair and Elsa's modern ice queen make-up and braid.
I can imagine these shoes were designed in the 50's right after Cinderella was released! Unfortunately I couldn't make these fit! :D |
So it's one way to dress up like a princess, to check the decade when the movie was made and dress up like they did on that time.
It's also fun to think, that when the princess movies were released at the first time, people really wore these kind of clothes in general, and how different the fashion is today.
This was my look for that day, not really vintage, though I have bought that dress many years ago and my dad bought me those shoes when I was still living home! That must be at least ten years ago, so almost vintage! The bag is from the 80's i think, it was a gift. Pink blouse is new from Bershka, but it has nice 20's look in it.
This time I didn't buy any dresses at the fair! That's really an accomplishment for me. But I found nice pair of long brown leather gloves, that can be worn with shorter sleeved jacket. And this fairytale book! It's called "Three daughters of the king". I havent had a change to start reading it yet, but I hope I will soon. There is nothing better than reading a good book with adventures in the great wide somewhere...
And here is our guests with my prince! I didn't really know them before they visited us, they were just couch surfing in our couch, but it's always nice to make new friends :) They were having an adventure of their own, next they were going to Germany to visit the Neuschwanstein fairytale castle that inspired Walt Disney! That's so amazing, I wish I could also go someday..
We didn't go to the horse carriage this time, but if there is a change to go to carousel we won't hesitate! |
We want to wish amazing adventure to our guests and adventurous summer to all!
Have courage and be kind
-Tuulikki
